Worse Than a Lie by Ben Crump

Worse than a Lie by Ben Crump is a procedural law/courts story.  It is listed as the first book in a series called Beau Lee Cooper.  Ben Crump is a prominent American civil rights and personal injury attorney known as “Black America’s Attorney General”. This is his first nonfiction book.

Hollis Montrose was a black policeman in Chicago. On the night that Obama was elected president, Hollis was pulled over, pulled out of his vehicle, and shot several times.  It is from this incident that the novel expands into a heart stopper.  Beau Lee Cooper with his various band of “helpers”  work to prove Hollis was racially targeted and brutally attacked.  Hollis is wrongfully accused and held with unreasonable high bail.  It is up to Beau Lee Cooper and his team to get Hollis off and then to sue the Chicago Police Department.

Worse than a Lie is well written with short chapters that hold the readers attention.  I found myself getting very nervous a couple of times even though from the information presented I have more knowledge already.  Ben Crump’s book Worse than a Lie is a great read.
