Once again I have stepped off my usual course of reading. Not only have I tried new authors and branched slightly into genres I usually avoid. I also have allowed others to suggest what I read next and actually read those novels. This week, I decided to reread a series of novels from the past. The only parameter I gave myself was the books needed to be on kindle or I owned and kept them.
I found a series by Kristen Ashley that I reread. Not necessarily her famous ones but one that is less well known called the Magdalene Series on my kindle. The Magdalene Series takes place in Magdalene, Maine, a small coastal town. The books were written in 2014 (The Will), 2014 (The Soaring), and 2017 (The Time In Between). Each novel highlights a couple, who on the outset might not look like they belong together, but fall for each other. They are definitely a second chance at love for people in their late 30s early 40s. The other interesting fact is that each of the women have a significant amount of money and the men, while comfortable, do not. I thoroughly enjoyed rereading them and found some story details I missed the first time.
It was like I fell in love with the characters a second time. Of the three I loved the first one best, because I really enjoyed the character, Josephine and her quirkiness. I felt like I was having a ‘cuppa tea’ with old friends and hearing the story of their falling in love. I found I didn’t want to put them down even knowing what was coming next and enjoyed my reread.
So why did I have a week of rereading…because I asked friends and family about whether they reread. Most of my group of friends and family do not reread. The various reasons all seemed to focus around too many new books and not enough time. One spoke about once the outcome is known the book is less interesting. While the ones that reread do so because they love the story or they feel they have more to learn by rereading (I think they were rereading nonfiction books.)
Elise sent in two book reviews by two authors who were in the military. They wrote books based on their experiences, one in fiction and one in nonfiction. She also asked them about Memorial Day and the meaning to them. It is interesting – so please read!
So… are you a ‘rereader’ or a ‘one and done’?
