The Treasure House by Amy Matthews takes place on the coast of Maine in a very small town. The house that Zoe and her daughter Flo buy is a treasure house. It is full of stuff from the prior owner – really filled to the brim – with various found treasures, antiques, left overs and just stuff.
They discover the small town and a lot of the inhabitants knew or were related to the past owner. Many kick their time and energy to help empty the house and make it habitable. Jake, the owner of the hardware store and various other businesses, is the largest help of all. He continues to show up with the knowledge and tools to help them. Perhaps more importantly Zoe learns about the meaning of family and neighbors and what it means to really belong. She begins to recognize her attraction to Jake and learns about trusting another.
Then the unexpected happens and Zoe needs to face a difficult truth.
I really enjoyed The Treasure House and found the novel well written and full of life. The characters and the challenges of the novel certainly mirror life. The Treasure House by Amy Matthews is an awesome read!
