The Secret Life of a Lady by Darcy McGuire is the first book of the Queen’s Deadly Damsels. The novel focuses on a group of women who are trained to investigate crimes for the Queen to bring people to justice. Due to the nature of the English law, nobility are not tried like other people and they often get away with crimes, even murder. The Queen wants these lords to be held accountable for their crimes.
Hannah Simmons presents as a wallflower, a dowdy companion. In reality, she is a secret agent for the Queen. She is investigating a death, however she keeps running into Robert Killian, the Duke who is also a secret agent, only for the Prime Minister. He is investigating the same situation, but he doesn’t believe that Hannah will be able to stop this independently despite the knives strapped to her body for safety.
As the investigation winds up, so does the investigation and Hannah and Killian. They are hot together despite how quickly their relationship jumped into being. I liked Hannah, so that was very helpful. I read this book after I read the second book and I still enjoyed it. The Secret Life of a Lady by Darcy McGuire was a good read.
