The Resistance Book Club by Ellie Curzon is another look at WWII from a small town on the coast of France. The book is told in two separate storylines (contemporary and WWII) with two strong women Margot and Lucy.
Margot owned a bookstore in the small French village during WWII. She is struggling with the German occupation and the new rules about books. Margot has an idea to help the women in town by running a secret book club reading and sharing banned books. They use the tunnels under the town to move someone freely. Until the Germans become more strident in searching to remove the resistance including all Jews.
Lucy has inherited her grandmother’s book shop. She is conflicted about staying as her life didn’t include staying and running an old store. Only there is a pull for staying. Then she starts finding out about the Resistance Book Club and the story of Margot and her friends during the war. The story needs to be told. Lucy continues to find more information that even has a few surprises.
Ellie Curzon is a pair of writers who worked together to write this novel. I found the storyline compelling, the characters interesting and passionate. I enjoyed reading the novel. The Resistance Book Club by Ellie Curzon is a great read.
