The Princess of Las Vegas by Chris Bohjalian is a twisted tale involving cryptocurrency, murders, impersonators and gangsters. The story is complex as usual (for Chris Bohjalian) and includes several plot twists, some expected and others unexpected. The book is different from any other I have read, which makes it remarkable.
Lady Diana is an impersonator in a second rate casino in Las Vegas. Chrissy Dowling has spent years perfecting her role. She has seemingly become her role in some cases. She is estranged mostly from her sister since her mother died.
Her sister Betsy is a social worker back in Vermont. She has found herself being burned out at work but with a newly adopted daughter she needs to provide for her. Betsy has an opportunity to go in a new direction, helping her new boyfriend with his upcoming cryptocurrency company. It requires her to move to Las Vegas near her sister but offers some financial security.
Little did Chrissy and Betsy know that they would be drawn into a bizarre world where gangsters and ‘philanthropists’ would rule, setting them up against each other. Then there is the murders, where organized crime is trying to take over the casino where Chrissy lives and works.
Chris Bohjalian’s newest novel is full of unexpected happenings pulling the sisters deeper into a world of fintech and crime. What an interesting novel and full of unexpected tension and secrets. The Princess of Las Vegas is an interesting novel and an enjoyable read.
