The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros just left me depleted. Absolutely totally wrecked. It was one of the best books I have ever read. I was totally emotionally involved with the characters and story.
Ella had twins Maisie and Colt. Her brother’s last letter was to his friend Beckett in case he didn’t come back alive. Beckett absolutely shows up, but nothing is that easy. There are scars upon scars about soldiers and leaving. What Ella didn’t realize is that Beckett is the same man she had been writing to called Chaos. Maisie’s serious illness and balancing a business after losing her brother Ryan was pushing Ella’s boundaries, but she was determined to be strong. Then Beckett came.
This story is a love story between the main characters. It is also a love story between a family and hope. It will pull every heartstring you think you have and then finds some more to pull. What a story with a strong element of tragedy. The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros is a five star read!
I read many of the reviews published about the book. My thoughts are based on the whole of the book. There is a tragedy that I can see that some readers were incredibly upset about and gave the book one star. I think they didn’t realize that the emotional component that allowed them to connect with the characters shows the writer’s absolute skill with writing. It is also what allows them to be really mad and disappointed at the end.
