The Lady on the Esplanade by Karen White

The Lady on the Esplanade by Karen White is the third book in a series. I didn’t read the first three, nor the series about the other characters, yet I was enchanted with the novel and did not feel I missed any key information reading this book before the others.  I loved the setting of New Orleans as it really helped make the story.

Nola Trenholm has left her home of Charlestown and is working on making New Orleans her new home.  She is in the middle of working on rehabbing a house for her new life and has new people in her world.  Unfortunately, there are some ghosts inhabiting her world and not all of them are benign.  The novel twists around to include the house she is working on for her work, a hot builder who can connect with the ghosts, a roommate who is sometimes the voice of reason and sometimes not.  OH – and a really creepy doll that keeps showing up in the wildest places, like it is following her!

I really enjoyed the characters and the setting of this novel.  It is clear that the characters are stronger together.  Even though this was the third book in the series, I didn’t feel I didn’t have enough knowledge to enjoy it.  I have to admit having the setting of New Orleans and a creepy doll following them around made the novel even more fun.  The Lady on the Esplanade by Karen White was a good read.

The book comes out early November.  The opinions in this review are my own. An ARC novel was given to me by the publisher.
