The King’s Ransom by Janet Evanovich is the second novel in the Gabriela Rose series. The novel is about Gabriela who is a kick ass recovery agent who can find just about anything. She is smart, creative and fierce in her investigations. She has or finds a source in every city, that just adds to the overall storyline. She also has an ex-husband, Rafer Jones, who she just can’t shake.
Gabriela has just returned to her apartment in New York to find her ex-husband Rafer and his cousin Harley crashing in her apartment. It seems that Harley is in trouble at his job and went to Rafer and together they went to Gabriela for help. It seems that the Rosetta Stone, King Tut’s sarcophagus and Van Gogh’s paintings. The three of them work together, to go searching with various characters in various cities. Gabriela seems to really have a knack for using details and good detective work to find things.
The novel is full of adventure, globe trotting, investigation, nasty men and humor. I am not sure who my favorite secondary character is, but I was enchanted by Ahmed and James. The villains at the center of all this don’t stand a chance. Gabriela and Rafer still spark off each other while knowing they are not good together was fun. I really enjoyed the novel, The King’s Ransom by Janet Evanovich and found it a fast, fun read.
