The Busybody Book Club by Freya Sampson is a cosy mystery with some interesting characters. The novel is based on a book club from a community center where so much stuff is happening and the newest employee, Nova Davies is blamed.
Nova is a transplant to Cornwall. She has moved in with her boyfriend into his parents house and is working on starting the next stage in her life. She is certain that this is going well and in order to show her creativity, she starts a book club at the community center where she works. Instead a large amount of money is missing from when she was in charge of her first book club. On top of that she is drawn into investigating the situation by other members of the book club and taking some dangerous steps. Her fiance and his mother especially are quite critical of her decisions and want her to be more focused on getting ready for her wedding. Nova is devastated by the thought that she might lose her job and hence her identity.
However, the more intricate the mystery seems, the more Nova is determined to find out the truth at the expense of getting ready for her wedding. Finding Michael, the missing book club member, takes on an adventure.
The Busybody Book Club by Freya Sampson is an interesting cosy mystery full of events that make you question Nova as an unreliable narrator. The story keeps moving along quickly – and there are a couple of characters that are “suspiciously” unlikable.
