Suggestions Given to Me

Last week, several people suggested different books for me to read and share with you.  I read a couple of them this week and I have to admit, this week will be more of the same.  Thank you for all your suggestions!

This week, I read:

The Measure by Nikkie Erlick can be read many ways for many people, but to me it reads as a novel to remind us the choices we make in our lifetimes are powerful and should be chosen with a clear understanding of how it helps the world.  The Measure follows a select group of people who have been given a box with a string inside it.  The string represents the length of their life. The novel, while making me cry at times, illustrated how divided people can be and treat others.  The novel reminded me that the beginning and the end are not as important as the here and now.  The Measure by Nikki Erlick is a five star read,  a great read that I highly encourage others to read.

Skin and Bones by Paul Doiron contains a number of short stories about Mike Bowditch and his mentor Charley Stevens.  The stories all take place in Maine – mostly northern Maine.  The crimes, sometimes quite twisted, always seem to keep me on the edge of my seat. Warning:  There is one about snakes. The stories contain a number of characters who might have been trying to avoid the Maine Game Wardens.

The Two of Us by Lori Foster and Maisey Yates.  The book contains two novellas about rescue animals.  The authors will be donating a portion of the proceeds from this book to animal rescue organizations. The Odd Couple by Lori Foster is the first novella.  Ford and Skye are neighbors.  Both would like a dog.  Together they come up with a bargain and leave the animal shelter with two dogs who are bonded together.  While learning about the animals Ford and Skye become close, very close.   Force of Nature by Maisey Yates is the second novella.  In this story, Lydia Clay saves animals, all kinds of animals.Recently, she obtained animals from Remington’s estranged father.  Remington had a hard young life so finding out the animals had been his fathers did not make it easier.  Lydia offered to help the animals, especially the dog, become more comfortable. Lydia and Remington find ways to make this work as well as a relationship between them.

I still have a few books to read that were suggested to me… so stay tuned for them.

Elise sent in an interview with Shaina Steinburg and her newest book called An Unquiet Peace.  The book is a mystery based on two characters that met during WWII. The Librarians of Lisbon by Suzanne Nelson is also shared with us as a guest review.  Check them both out.  They sound great.
