This week is the state primary day in New Hampshire. We will be working on cutting down the number of candidates in each major party to the top runners. I am pleased I will be working as a ballot clerk for the primary and the general election. There are a bunch of new rules including having to say every name and address outloud twice. The rules are to help keep track of the ballots and the people and to prevent voter fraud. Not that we are a hotbed of voter fraud.
It makes me wonder how many people really believe that everyone is out to get something by hook or by crook. It makes me wonder if people really believe there were missing or misread or lost ballots. After seeing the hard work and dedication of all the people who work to make the election run smoothly, I can’t see a cadre of them working together to undermine something they take such pride and care in. I am not the type of person who always is on the lookout for a way around a system or a way to cheat the system.
We vote by paper ballot with one handed out after the proper identification is seen. The ballot is put into an old wooden box that has been used forever (probably only since the 1800s). The ballots are counted by hand by citizens in groups of four. There is all sorts of cross verification going on. (ie number of ballots voted = number of ballots passed out). I am proud of the way my town handles itself with elections. I am proud of the tradition that has been handed down by generations of ancestors.
Elise has sent in a lovely interview with Mary Burton for us to enjoy. Elise describes the plot of Another Girl Lost as gripping, engaging, twisty, dark, with triggers and twists. Sounds like a wonderful read for those who like twisting dark plots!
Check out the new and old reviews and Elise’s Interviews this week. Hope you are taking the time to read.
