My favorite quote of the week was “I kept telling myself one more chapter, one more chapter… and then there were no more chapters!” This is from my bestie. She was reading The First Gentleman by Bill Clinton and James Patterson and realized that she had stayed up most of the night reading it. I tried not to fall into the same situation reading the same book by putting it down several times and then I found myself just reading one more chapter…
I know all readers have run into the same problem. “There is only a little left in the book, I might as well finish it.” “I can sleep in a little later tomorrow.” “The book is too good to put down!” My favorite excuse, “Oh My I didn’t realize what time it was?”
Reading a good book is sometimes more important than getting the right amount of sleep before work. It might even be more important than answering the phone, making dinner, and speaking to your family. Sometimes, well always, it is more important than doing housework or the dishes.
I think as adults we need to be proactive and get a day on the calendar that is only for reading. OH but wait there is a day! National Read a Book Day is September 6, 2025. A day to start a wonderful book, curl up (or stretch out) and read without guilt.
On August 9, 2025 there is National Book Lovers Day. It is designed to help all book lovers celebrate reading and literature. While that is wonderful – I think I would just rather read. As a matter of fact. I think that is what I wish to do tonight and tomorrow and maybe the next day too.
Elise sent in a review of the book about Desi Arnaz. Her review makes it sound interesting. She also sent in an interview with Christina Hillsberg who wrote, Agents of Change that sounds like another fascinating book to read. https://marjaysreadingblog.com/interviews/
