This week, I finally was able to get all my Christmas decorations out of the attic and set up some of them. In keeping with my vow to donate and share, I was able to donate about half my ornaments to an organization looking for ornaments. Later I was told that they all went to an elderly woman who had just taken in her grandson and wanted to put up a tree. That is the power of donating. Each small piece goes to help another.
I was told by one of the visiting nurses that my house looked like Christmas thrown up in it. I am not sure it was meant as a complement, but I decided to take it as one! I do love the bright lights and various ornaments.
I have to share one of the books I read this week. The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros was a five star read. For me five star books are reads that might make me laugh or cry in public. In this case I ugly cried! The book touched my soul and has stayed with me all week. The characters were well drawn and likable. The children were precious and allowed the humanity of the book to shine.
This week I have to pick up and drop off books at the library – it is always fun to see what is waiting for me! I also have a new book suggested by one of my book groups, The 13th Gift: A True Story of Christmas. I have a feeling more tears are on the way. I also am going to work on reading Last Christmas in Paris (a book club book) – I suspect another tear jerker. I think I better make sure that I added tissues to my shopping list!
Elise was also reading in the Christmas genre this week with her guest review of Puppy Love and SnowFlake Kisses by Jennifer Faye. The book has Christmas and ornaments along with an adopted pup named Odie. The interview this week is with S. J. Bennett and her newest book, The Queen Who Came in From the Cold. It is about Queen Elizabeth II and her private secretary Joan McGraw. The book is a ‘whodunit’ with “spies, lies and treachery.
Happy Holidays and find time to read.
