New Blog: Reading Apps

Hi Everyone,  I have four book reviews to write, but I will admit they won’t be done today.  I got lost somewhere between the baseball finals (Red Sox lost) and doctor’s appointments.  It is clear that my wound is not going to heal for quite some time and I admit, I needed time to adjust to the thought of continuing to deal with the wound.

The other thing I got lost in was the reading apps on my phone.  All of them were promising reading without having to pay and there were a number of chapters to read.  What I discovered for myself.

  1. They give you just enough to read to hook you…  Just when you want to find out what happens next,  you are shut down.
  2. When they shut you down, then they suggest you use your “free coins” to read more.  Except after the first few coins you have to buy the coins or buy the subscription.
  3. I wouldn’t mind the subscription, but they are expensive for what you are getting.  I do mind buying coins to finish a story.
  4. Some sites you can “earn coins” by reading each day, or using social media.  However, it still prevents you from reading when you want.  Forget finishing on one reading.  Forget reading in your extra time!
  5. I have gone online looking to buy the book and often found very similar books for sale on Amazon.  However, mostly the books have changed (Some more than others) with names or descriptions of the characters or events.  Usually there is enough of the story line that is similar, but not quite.

I am so disappointed in the apps I found.  I am sure that there are more apps than the ones I found.  I am sure that some of them are more reasonably priced.  I am also sure that some people do only read for short periods a day (not anyone I know personally).  Obviously, the library has online vehicles for borrowing books and listening to books.  I know Kindle Unlimited (My personal go to) offers unlimited books for reading (although they choose the books) and you pay for the pleasure.

I think what upsets me is their marketing – read for free – yeah nope…  SIGH

Elise sent in a book review of Girl Lost by Kate Angelo.  IT sounds like the book is going to keep you right on the edge of your seat at times.  She interviewed Julia Kelly and her new series (with three books so far! )  The new main character is Evelyne Redfern and the time period is WWII.  Evelyne is a spy and each book looks to be quite the adventure.  The interview will help set you up!

As always,  please read.

Public Interest Note – banned book day is coming this month!
