Today, Sunday has been a beautiful late summer day. The sun was shining but it was not overly hot . The cats and I spent time outside – well except when the Red Sox were playing! We probably shouldn’t speak about that… I have to share with all of you that I read some great books this week. Two were so out of my normal sphere and I enjoyed them thoroughly!
The Best Way to Bury Your Husband by Alexia Casale is a fun read! The book is a book that reminds us – that we can do anything with support and help. Of course, the presumption is that it won’t include murder, mayhem, and dismemberment. The strength of the five women against their husbands, noisy neighbors, lockdown restrictions and COVID is remarkable with each woman hiding the bruises. It might be called a dark comedy, but I found the book also could be uplifting and show the strength that women have despite all that life can throw at them. The end was just priceless.
We’ll Prescribe You a Cat written by Syou Ishida and translated by E Madison Shimoda is an intriguing book that I just could not put down. I read the entire thing this afternoon and was so sad at parts and so happy at parts, but I left the book with an overall sigh of contentment. The novel was a series of short stories that all were connected by the doctor’s office who prescribed a cat no matter what the clients came in for. Imagine being given a cat as a prescription by a medical doctor! I noticed that this book is labeled as the first in a series. Interesting. The book obviously takes place in Japan and the characters I suspect are characters that the author has met or knows. Personally, I enjoyed reading about the people and the cats equally. What a different novel!
Elise has sent in a guest review of a deliciously named book called A Fatal Feast at Bransford Manor by Darci Hannah. She has also sent in a new interview with John Gilstrap and his newest book Zero Sum.
PS – the picture is of cute kittens I saw and would love to have but will not succumb!
