New Blog: Hanukkah

For the last two weeks, I have read some extremely emotional books!  Including some ugly crying, something I do well.  To top it off I ran out of tissues and I ended up using paper towels.  Ouch on the nose.

Five – five star books since Thanksgiving.  All met that connection I need between me and the characters to be worthy of five stars.  All were books that I struggled with letting go when the story ended.  All were books that made me realize how some authors have the ability to draw such characters and stories with their words that I am bound up in the story, using details to help connections.  All the books had universal themes that people can connect with or at least understand and empathize with.  I have listed the five books that earned five stars from me from the last two months (in no particular order).

The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros

Last Christmas in Paris by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb

The 13th Gift by Joanne Huist Smith.

When the Rain Ends by Mary Ellen Taylor

The Wild Card by Carolyn Brown

Elise sent in an interview with Jean Meltzer, the author of the novel, Eight Heartbreaks of Hanukkah. The author states that, “The world…can appear so dark. By being bright ourselves, we can brighten other people and make the world a much lighter and better place.” Jean Meltzer’s goal is to spread light among Jewish stories and to write from Jewish authenticity.  This is so relevant as Hanukkah starts tonight. It is an eight day festival celebrated by the nightly lighting of the menorah.

Wishing those that celebrate Hanukkah, a holiday filled with light, joy and peace.

PS – My Christmas tree continues to stand unharmed.  Maybe it is because of the extra wiring and maybe it is a miracle.  I will take what I can get.
