Murder of a Merry Gentleman by Celeste Connally is the fourth book in a series called Lady Petra Inquires, book 4. The novel is an historical fiction/murder mystery with some romance. The main character is Lady Petra and her set of friends. She does not fit the “expected” woman from the regency. She is independent and determined to stay that way. She also is inquisitive and unable to let things go and has earned a reputation as an investigator.
In this particular novel, Petra is asked to help organize four sets of dances at Almack’s Assembly Rooms with Gentleman to be auctioned off to raise money. However, as the first dance was going off, one of the “merry gentlemen” was found dead. A decision was made to keep his death a secret and to have Petra investigate the murder.
I like how Petra kept asking questions. I liked how her group of friends had her back. I found her determination to not accept the easiest of answers helpful! To me the book was more of a cozy mystery only with an historical element. Murder of a Merry Gentleman by Celeste Connally was a good read.
