Lethal Game by Barbara Freethy is another installment of her series called Off The Grid. In this book we are introduced to Jason Coulter as he and his team take on a heartless killer. The same heartless killer who killed his father. The series focuses on a team of people who work for the FBI on various specialty cases and how they work and follow leads. The team is based in Southern California.
Alisa Hunt is a nurse at a local hospital. In less than 48 hours, her whole world collapses. She has almost been kidnapped and killed, both times saved by Jason Coulter. Her father is missing, her mother is in the hospital with an undiagnosable illness, and her childhood home has been burned to the ground. Obviously something is going on with their family. Is she the key to Jason Coulter’s newest case?
Jason Coulter takes her under his protection as he tries to navigate the case he is on and how Alisa fits into the case. There are so many people demanding answers and Jason begins to question who is on what side. The story takes some interesting twists and turns while Alisa and Jason start to fall for each other while trying to solve the case.
As always, Barbara Freethy’s stories are full of people who passionately want to keep the world safe from mad men, while finding their true love. Her stories epitomize the genre of romantic suspense. Lethal Game by Barbara Freethy is a great read.
