Land Girls of the Highlands by Carol MacLean

Land Girls of the Highlands by Carol MacLean is a novel based on the Land Girls in Great Britain during WWII.  The Land Girls were young ladies who were sent to various farms to help with the work load while the young men were soldiers fighting WWII.  The main characters are two young women from Glasgow called Molly and Maisey.  They are sent to live and work on a farm in Perthshire farm.  

This is a whole new world for the girls.  They have not seen a cow in person before and have no idea the amount of work it takes to grow and harvest food.  Molly and Maisey have so much to learn in their new world.  Then there are all the new inhabitants in the nearby town and the nearby soldiers.  

Both Maisey and Molly have so much to learn while the War continues to rage in Europe.  The novel contains hope, optimism and love in the midst of deprivation and sacrifice. The learning and adventures of Molly and Maisey are key elements in the novel.  

This is the first book in a series called Made in Scotland. Land Girls of the Highlands by Carol MacLean is a wonderful read by a debut author.
