Labor Day

Today feels like fall.  Totally not happy with that.  It is the last day of August. The sun is shining. The leaves are still green. I am not ready to wear socks again.  I am not ready to wear longer pants. I am definitely not ready for any of that four letter stuff.  Having whined sufficiently, the air is crisp and clean. I can sleep at night with the cooler weather.  The cats cuddling me no longer make me sweat. Many people are speaking about putting out Halloween decorations. Personally, I made a cup of coffee recently.

My preparations for fall include cleaning out the coat and linen closet.  I have (Heather delivered) sent off all the jackets and coats that do not fit.  I have sent off extra blankets and quilts and considered (briefly – very briefly) putting on a heavier quilt on my bed.  I have actually turned on my oven knowing that it will work for oven baked dinners. I found my fur lined crocs.  I need to track down my shovel next. OH and put the air conditioners away.

I have just completed a reading challenge for the American Cancer Society.  Every day in August I read.  Little do they know – I would have read every day anyhow. I read some great books and made sure to write them up.  I have decided to continue to only put up on the blog, books with a 3 or higher star rating.  Of course, I will keep on reading, but my next big push for me will be doing something with the loads and loads of pictures I have found, including my mom’s ration cards from WWII.

Elise sent in a review of the book, Believe Me Now by SM Govett.  The book is a suspenseful thriller with a puzzling case.  Keeping with the murder mystery theme, Alyssa Maxwell is interviewed about her newest book, Murder at Arleigh.  After witnessing the wedding of a family member, the main character is surprised to find out the bride is worried about the groom killing her for her money. The book contains a mystery that is not figured out until the end.

Happy Labor Day tomorrow.  Please take the time to think about how hard people worked for safer working conditions and earning living wages.
