Free Fire was another great read by CJ Box! Because I have enjoyed what I have read, I am trying to read some of his earlier novels about Joe Pickett. I really enjoyed them!
In this novel, Joe is sent into Yellowstone National Park by the governor. He is supposed to keep a low profile while trying to answer some questions about money and murder. Joe does try to keep a low profile, however it takes no time at all before things are happening and people are trying to kill him.
The information about the various geysers and learning about the various elements of Yellowstone was fascinating. I didn’t feel like I was being lectured because the information was woven into the story. The murder was the more interesting as there is a section of Yellowstone that does not have any people, so according to the story, it was called the Dead Zone and no one could be punished for murder in that section.(I honestly don’t know if this was an artifice of the novel or not.)
I was glad to see Nate back in the novel. Joe continues to be the most honest man who is put into some of the most unusual positions. When Joe is in the woods engaged in finding solutions, I am right there with him, without being in nature, but wishing I was!
Free Fire by CJ Box is another fabulous read!
