First Witches Club by Maisey Yates

First Witches Club by Maisey Yates is a contemporary novel focusing on three women who have bonded over shared experiences.   Nora, Daisy, and Soraya all went to school together but they didn’t maintain any relationship after high school. Only now they need each other for support.  On top of their world collapsing due to their unreliable, deceiving, no good husbands causes other problems – money, housing, children.

Nora’s husband says he needs time away. He goes hiking in Chile and does not want to speak with her while he finds himself.  Nora is trying to understand what is happening with her relationship and how she needs to add more to her life.  And then there is Sam.

Daisy is married to her high school sweetheart.  He runs a building business where she is the bookkeeper.  She also is running a drama program several nights a week. Never mind that they have  3 younger children that keeps her so busy. Her husband actually has proposed to another woman, even though he is still married to her.

Soraya’s husband left and took their two teenage boys. Never mind he left after he sent her a dick picture in church. The very restrictive traditional church and suddenly she is the outcast because she is not able to move beyond the picture. Suddenly she needs a place to live and a way to earn money. She has never lived alone, never had a job, and never been able to make her own way.

Into this picture comes a new store and owner called Lady’s Mantle Apothecary. This shop offers several services (some are too witchy for Soraya) including a chance for each of them to get a job. They work through all the feelings that come with huge changes including revenge, karma, and new paths. The best part is the new community they are able to form.

The book shows how strong a community of women can help each other: that we are stronger together. First Witches Club by Maisey Yates is a great read.
