Burning the Candle at Both Ends

Tonight (really this afternoon here)…. the Olympics ended.   I watched everything I could, sometimes having two different things open at the same time (ie computer and TV).  I was getting up early, going to bed late, trying to take it all in. Meanwhile I was trying to keep up with my reading as well.  I have slept through alarms and done the head nodding in the afternoon.  I watched rugby, handball, artistic swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, and so much more.  I am ready to sleep for a long time.

What has amazed me is that I have been unable to crochet will watching them, something I do all the time!  I clapped, cheered, laughed and cried.  Even now when I could fall asleep on my feet, I am watching the ending ceremony again.  There is an elegance to the ceremonies, a solemn promise and a hope for the future.  The excitement of the athletes with their determination and dedication is awe inspiring. Seeing the joy and party atmosphere this evening is a great way to end the time. What other event could bring so many people together in peace?

Meanwhile, in the reading world. I read three great books:

The Lost Coast by Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman was a wicked twisted surprise of a read.  I felt the novel was the best one yet in the Clay Edison series.  As always it could be read as a stand alone.

The Instrumentalist by Harriet Constable asked you to suspend some reality, but on the whole the novel is historical fiction.  The novel is about Anna Marie della Pieta, a violinist who was extraordinary and became quite famous for the time.  It also highlighted her composing with Vivaldi (yup, the composer of The Four Seasons)

How to Fall for a Scoundrel by Kate Bateman is the second book in the series Her Majesty’s Rebels.  The books center around three women who run King and Co. The business is an investigative agency, only there is no Mr King, at least until Harry appears.

Elise was also busy:

The guest review was with Karen Slaughter and her newest Will Trent book called, This is Why We Lied.  I mean – it is about Will Trent – you have to check it out!

The Author Interview was with Patricia Johns about her newest books: Her Pretend Amish Beau and An Amish Country Reunion.  Not only does she explain her thinking about these books, but she gives you some information about her upcoming books.

I hope you have time to read!
