Beach Read by Emily Henry is a contemporary romance with an interesting twist. Both main characters are writers. Both are struggling with writing. Both knew each other from college. Both are trying to move on from a difficult situation.
January Andrews is bright, happy, sunshiny and a HEA author. Recently her life has taken a turn and she is struggling with her writing. She has a deadline coming up and is in no way or shape going to make the deadline without some help.
Augustus Everrett writes literary novels with no HEA. His characters do not have their dreams met but tend to move on through their life and then meet some tragic end. He had a deadline coming up but was struggling with his past. Only to have a new neighbor move in next door – January Andrews.
Together they are chalk and cheese, light and dark, total opposites until they make a deal to help each other only in a contest. They each need to write a novel with the other person’s writing style in mind.
Together in a small town where there are unlimited chances to run into each other, they form a deal that is going to require a lot from the other and maybe give them chances to hope for the future and a HEA. Beach Read was well written with great characters. The novel was thought provoking for me. I enjoyed reading the novel and would encourage others to enjoy it as well.
