Avenging Angels is the first book in the newest series from the Kristen Ashey world. The series is called Avenging Angels. The novel introduces us to a group of besties who are fierce and want to right wrongs and help others. They live in an apartment complex called the Oasis, which is just what it is for many people. Their community is tight and the residents are a ‘found family’ for Rachel Armstrong (called Raye).
Raye works in a local coffee shop as a barista with her besties. It is in the midst of looking for a missing child that Julien “Cap” Jackson finds Raye and saves her as she saves the child from a pedophile. Her next mission is to find out what is happening with the missing woman of Phoenix. Since they are sex workers, no one seems to care enough to find them. Suddenly Raye and her bestie Luna are “picked up” to be new “Charlie’s Angels,” Nyow they have the materials they need to fight for justice (except training).
Cap is down in Phoenix to work for the newest Nightingales Investigations. He is part of the newest hot guys who under Mace’s leadership seem to take on a lot of investigations that are remarkably well financed. He is seriously into Raye and he cooks.
I liked Raye and Cap. I liked how they seemed to “get each other”. What I was unprepared for was all the prior characters from the Rock Chick books showed up – way too often. I also was unprepared for how they would become so intricate to the storyline instead of adding new characters outside the original ones. The story did rely on the suspension of realism (i.e. untrained Charlie Angels and the outrageous outfits that Raye and her friends were able to put together on their salaries).
Having said all of that, I was glad to read a Kristen Ashley book that was nothing more than madcap fun with hot and quirky characters. Avenging Angels by Kristen Ashley was a fun read.
