An American in Scotland by Lucy Connelly is the first novel in a wonderful new series, Scottish Isle Mystery. The novel’s main character is Dr. Emilia McRoy. She moves to Scotland specifically to Sea Isle. She is excited as it is a new adventure and a new beginning for her. As the only doctor available she knows she will be dealing with some of everything with the whole population.
Her office and home is an old church that has been remodeled into an up-to-date office with many advantages that were unexpected. As part of her contract, Em also is the coroner, which she finds out about her first night when she finds a dead body. The laird/constable Ewan Campbell finds her with a dead man. This is only the beginning of the cosy mystery where bodies disappear and return, people keep secrets, and Em is trying to find what really happened.
I fell into this book by accident on Kindle. I was caught from the beginning and struggled to put the book down. I even purchased book 2 and 3 to read! I like the characters (and there are many), the devotion, caring and commitment each of them make. An American in Scotland by Lucy Connelly is a good read!
