All the Little Houses by May Cobb was not what I was expecting. It read quickly and was hard to put down. It answered as many questions as it left. The story takes place in Texas during recent times and does show the have and have nots clearly.
Nellie is a mean rich girl. Her mother seems to be overly involved in her life making sure she gets what she wants. (Yes, that is a bit of a scary statement, isn’t it?) Her mother,Charleigh Andersen, was raised without and is determined her daughter will not.
Into this town moves the Swifts. They live off the land, Bible thumping family with daughters. Jane, the middle daughter, makes friends with the same group Nellie hangs in and shines. Nellie feels pushed out and becomes angry and resentful.
Meanwhile, we have all sorts of shenanigans happening with the adults. Certainly, not everyone is as they present themselves. We have drama, more drama and a train wreck slowly happening… It is like a soap opera with all the expectations and lots of manipulative and immoral characters.
All The Little Houses by May Cobb is a thriller that starts with a bang and pulls you in. It is a great read.
