A Waltz to Remember by Mary Balogh is the sixth book in the Ravenwood series. It does include characters from the prior books about the family and its connections, however not reading the prior books does not take away from the story. This particular novel focuses on Stephanie Ware and Bertrand Lamarr, Viscount Watley.
Stephanie Ware was the youngest of the siblings that were shocked by their father’s transgressions and illegal marriage. She felt alone and then lost the one person who she felt safe with – her dad. This scarred her as did the fact that many people did not see her as the “proper lady” she was supposed to be. She was heavier and wore her hair in an old fashion style.
Betrand Lamarr was Stephanie’s brother’s best friend. He was considered a perfect catch. Only Stephanie was opposed to him and pushed him away with cruelty. But as their family was intertwined he showed up at the family party and Stephanie was forced to be in his presence. She apologized for the past, however both could feel the connection which was scary.
This book had more angst than I remember from her prior books, but it was worked into the story. Stephanie’s past carried a heavy load on her. I found the book interesting and was interested in how it could possibly end. A Waltz to Remember by Mary Balogh was a good read.
