A Little Ray of Sunshine by Kristan Higgins is a wonderful tale about finding your way, especially when unexpected surprises pop up. The novel takes place on the Cape over a summer. Harlow, our main character, is a part owner of a bookstore with her grandfather and a cousin (dubious connection).
The book starts with a serious kick when Harlow’s son, who she gave up for adoption and never told her family about, shows up unannounced at the book store. This opens the book into a family drama for her family and his adopted family. This opens up all sorts of revelations and emotions.
I like Kristan Higgins’s books. Her characters are fallible and likable. The setting of the beach on the Cape is always primo. I like how the characters all have situations to work through, people’s reactions are not always predictable. My only complaint was the length of the book, although I can not find any part that was unnecessary. A Little Ray of Sunshine by Kristan Higgins was a good read.
