The Christmas Hourglass by Davis Bunn is a slow burn to understanding that stuff happens and you move on with love and grace with help from your posse. The book is a hard read at the beginning due to the emotional response to the characters, but slowly the reader heals as the main character. It is interesting that the journey the book brings you on is the journey of the main character and is rather unexpected.
Thad is a chef at a high end restaurant on the Outer Banks. His wife and his daughter are taken from him only days apart and he is left with his granddaughter Laura to raise. She brings structure to his days and people who are determined to help him. That determination brings more people into his circle and allows him to move forward.
Despite the grief from the beginning the book is really a celebration of life. Learning to live, laugh and sing with new hopes and dreams, perhaps even new beginnings. Davis Bunn has once again surprised me with a wonderful read that brings me on a journey of self discovery. The Christmas Hourglass by Davis Bunn is a good read.
