The Women in White by Sarah Pekkanen is one of those books that just chill you to your toes. Not because it is bloodthirsty or gross, but because it is so chilling. Betty, an older woman, is looking for a home health aide. She hires Riley Bell without a lot of fan fare. Betty has Riley look up some information about Betty’s friends from the past, which leads to questions and then more questions.
The book is written in two time periods, the present and the past. In the past, Betty and her friends were taking part in a series of experiments on ESP. The professor in charge is an interesting character who is driven to find answers. In the present Betty and Riley are determined to find out what happened to her friends and then what that has to do with what is happening now to Betty and Riley.
I found the storylines of both past and present fascinating. I was surprised at the lengths the professor went and even more surprised that the husbands allowed that to occur. The story was chilling and really caused my eyes to open to experiments in the past that happened under the name of science. The writing was spot on and the characters were well thought out! The Women in White by Sarah Pekkanen was a good read.
