Bloodlust by Sandra Brown is the second book in the Blood series. The novel absolutely can be read as a stand alone. (Although the first book is quite good, as well.) This second novel focuses on Detective Mitch Haskell and his desire to track down and kill the person who killed his wife. Despite the death of his wife being labeled suicide Mitch knows his wife was murdered to punish him.
Wrapped into this mystery with police procedure mixed in, we have Dr. Dylan Reede, a psychologist who unknowingly is drawn into the unusual investigation. Leading the police team is Detective John Bowie, Mitch’s best friend and boss. The other important element is the bayou, a place to hide and a place to put dead bodies, where they will not be found.
The whole story adds creepy villains and inhospitable weather as part of the investigation. Sandra Brown has another hit book, Bloodlust!
