Road Trip by Mary Kay Andrews is a fun book. The novel explores the relationship between two siblings that are sooo different. Due to their mother’s death, Maeve and Therese Dunigan are on an exploration of their heritage and the providence of a painting. Without the painting being legitimate, the sisters are flat broke.
Maeve is a professor and the rule follower. She has spent the last months taking care of her mom. Unfortunately politics means she is without a job . Therese has been chasing her dream of being an actress. She has followed her dream with help from her mother’s checking account. Together, they argue and carry on about the other. Realistically they do love each other, just see things differently.
Their mother determined that she wanted them to go to Ireland to find their roots. Neither want to go, but neither sees another solution, so they are off. What they find and how they find it makes the story so interesting. The two main characters and the ones they meet makes the story funny, irreverent and ‘un-put-downable”! They were searching for the connection, the mystery of their ancestor for their family.
I really enjoyed the novel. The storyline, the sisters, and the characters were intertwined to make this book so wonderful. Road Trip by Mary Kay Andrews was a great read!
