The May House by Jillian Cantor

The May House by Jillian Cantor was a wonderful story about three sisters and the May House.  Every summer, the three sisters went to stay with their grandmother for a week on Coronado.  Upon her death, she left the cottage to the three sisters providing they continue to spend one week every year together in the cottage.  Each of the daughters are very different and as time passes their lives grow apart in different ways.

Julia, Emily, and Nora were described as a smore with one being chocolate, another marshmallow and the third as a graham cracker.  Next door is Nate, another part of the story.  The chapters are told in the voices of the sisters, grandmother and at various times.  Each add up to finding out about a secret long held in their family.

I found this novel to be poignant, heartwarming, and charming. I loved the house, the beach and the time spent together. I found it interesting that the author actually spent time on this island when she was young as well, perhaps explaining her wonderful descriptions.

The May House by Jillian Cantor was a wonderful read.
