Today the clocks turned ahead by one hour. Although many people wish the clocks would not change – others seem to think it is important. I read an op-ed piece suggesting a compromise of moving the clock one half hour back in the fall and not moving it again. I think it is a great idea!
Today is also International Women’s Day. It is supposed to be a day of celebration. The day is meant to celebrate women’s rights for equality, reproductive thinking, gender equality, and reproductive rights. One of the memes I saw today pointed out the day only has 23 hours in it, so once again women are cheated out of a full period of time. Personally, I see women’s rights are being eroded by our current culture.
Reading this week included the book Anne of a Different Island. Years ago, maybe 30 years or so, one of my neighbors, Chris, was in love with Anne of Green Gables (both the books and movies). That was when in order to watch this you had to wait until the movies were playing on PBS during one of its money drives. She invited me over and we binged (before binged was a word for watching shows in a row). All three movies. I was in love with Anne and tracked down the books to read. Virginia Kantra has rewritten the story with the major storyline. The setting is an island in the Great Lakes, modern day. Anne goes to college in Chicago to be a teacher and falls in love with a doctor. Then the pandemic happened with the isolation and online learning. Anne needed to learn that life does not follow a book, there are too many variables. What I loved was how Anne and her mother were so awkward with each other, just like in the book. I loved Joe Miller. I also loved the small population and how they interact with each other.
Elise sent in a book review of The Crown of Stars by Shana Abe. The novel is a fictional novel about the sinking of the Lusitania by someone who survived. She also sent in an interview with Caroline Mitchell and her book called The Ice Angels. The novel is the first one in a new crime series with a female detective.
As always take the time to read.
