Saoirse by Charleen Hurtubise

Saoirse by Charleen Hurtubise is a novel that brings us a life filled with secrecy, determination, love and art.  The story is told in three distinct segments: a teenager, a young woman, and a woman who lives by the sea.  In each case, the main character is Saoirse, but at different stages.  This presentation allows the views to see the distinct portions of her life. Of course all three do come together at the end of the novel.

Saoirse’s childhood was difficult and led her to make some difficult choices.  As a young woman she struggled with understanding her place and how to make her way.  Once she was able to start seeing her place in the world quietly, she seemed able to start expressing herself, but even then her complete story was not shared. It became harder when her art was noticed.

To be honest, I was not loving the differentiation of each chapter at the beginning until I got into the book and by the end couldn’t stop reading to find out the ending.  The story as a whole is one of survival, grief, and continuing to walk forward.  Saoirse by Charleen Hurtubise is a great read.
