A Great Act of Love by Heather Rose is a wonderful (almost saga) story of a woman and her family. The novel really highlights the difficulty of life in England and then resettling in a new land. The reality of a penal colony and the difficulty of being a woman in the 1800s is shared. The book is told in multiple view points and does not always follow a single time line. The connections between the people seem to be so clear with some sidelines.
Caroline and her father are the main characters. Caroline’s love of her family is such a strong strain throughout the story. From her father’s surviving the French Revolution and Caroline’s surviving the loss of her family .
What I found most poignant, Caroline’s struggle to start a life with so many stories to keep straight. Her determination to save her father and his legacy was her goal for so long while trying to start a new life. I felt the book was almost a family saga about starting again.
A Great Act of Love by Heather Rose was a wonderful read. The book was not action packed, was not packing a thrill, it was a slow growing passion of life and family.
