Billion Dollar Ransom by James Patterson and Duane Swierczynski

Billion Dollar Ransom by James Patterson is a fun “whodunit”. A ransom demand was given to a reclusive billionaire.  A kidnapper asking for a billion dollars for the release of a family (oldest son, younger kids and wife). All were kidnapped at the same time. The premise of the story comes across as simplistic, but it is not.  The kidnapper seems to be more than one.  The kidnappers seem to be working together to pull off an event of the century.

Nicky Gordon is head agent on the case from the FBI.  She is smart, methodical, detailed and willing to find the kidnappers.  She understands that the kidnapper is very specific and is working on being difficult.  He (She) also seems to know of her every move, which means there is a mole in her team, which adds to the drama.

James Patterson and Duane Swierczynski have written a convoluted mystery that would stump most of the agents, but not Nicky Gordon.  The byplay of the agent vs kidnapper is interesting.  The mixture of kidnappers to kidnapped people is also interesting in how they are focused on what they are doing.

Billion Dollar Ransom by James Patterson is an interesting novel to read that keeps you guessing!
