Lately I have had problems reading. While I admit to needing to wear glasses even when reading, for some reason it is easier for me to read without glasses. This is not the problem. The problems are Gizzie and Yoshi. Yes, the two cats, They have an overwhelming urge every night to sleep on or by my face. I just do not have enough real estate for both of them.
Gizzie is small and petite. You would think she would take up the smallest amount of space. NOPE, you are wrong. Somehow she always manages to be between me and my book or phone or kindle or even the TV, with her butt in my face. According to my research that means I am trusted, loved and have a strong bond with her. The fact that her butt is close enough to prevent all movement by me is a detail. She starts out in a loaf position before eventually she curls up, which immediately gives me an inch or two of freedom.
Yoshi is a long and tall cat. He has been with me since he was a kitten and used to sleep right under my ear with his face smooshed up against my neck. Accordingly, this is also another trust position. In this case, he probably wants to feel or hear my heartbeat. Often his paws are on my face pushing against my face. While he falls asleep purring, eventually it changes over to loud snoring in my ear. The rest of his body is in some lean and long position partly on his side and partly on his back. He often stretches and spreads himself along my whole side. Let’s not even admit to the fact that at least twice a year he brings me poison ivy and shares it on my arm, hand and face.
Right now you are wondering how this stops my reading. They prevent me from seeing over the furballs to a book or electronic device. If I try to squeeze it between them and my face, the print is too close to read. If I hold the book up over them so I can see the book, my arms get quite uncomfortable holding the item over them. Don’t even think I can use them to hold the book, indignation occurs and I have to wait for them to calm down and reorient themselves all over again.
If I sit up and shoo them away, you would think I am abusing them as they try to sneak on or lean over or squeeze in to get to me. Now I understand this is not a “real problem” like world hunger or nuclear weapons, but in my little world it becomes a battle. Even right now, Yoshi is sleeping on the back of my chair – almost on my head. Gizzie has crawled up on the small table trying to find some room next to my computer, after she grooms herself making the computer rock and roll with her licking and scratching.
Hopefully Elise’s dog does not do the same to her, but I am sure as a lab, she wants to! Elise interviewed John Gilstrap, this week. They spoke about his new series, Irene Rivers with the first book being named, Burned Bridges. There is also a guest review by Elise of My Daughter’s Secret by Nicole Trope.
I am off to watch baseball and to read. I hope you take time to read this week.
