Battle Mountain by CJ Box is another book in the series about Joe Pickett (number 25). I found this novel particularly interesting with the various characters. Once again Joe is sent in on a secret mission to find a missing son-in-law of the governor. Only the situation is much more that a simple recovery mission. There are armed men and activists hiding on Battle Mountain for nefarious purposes. Nate and Geronimo are after Axel Soledad who seems all tied up in this. But what is this – seems to be the question. With few options, Joe keeps moving on in his quest with various scenarios happening.
THe fact that there is a huge group of some of the major movers and shakers in the federal government hanging out in a nearby property for a weekend “secret” meeting also fits into the scenario. Axel is determined to cause havoc, but where and why?
Once again, I am in love with Joe Pickett and his side kicks. I love reading the novel with all the adventures/situations he gets in and out of. I look forward to reading more of his novels! Battle Mountain by CJ Box is a great read.
