Adventures with Reading

How many of you had fantasies of running away and living in the woods?

Then you read Hatchet and knew you could live in the woods (or not in my case).   Reading adventure books when I was young made me long for the woods and fields and freedom of the fields. Sleeping out in a tent we made with our quilts and the dog was adventure enough. Despite knowing I am a little too much of a homebody  and like to be near running water (shower, toilet) I have to admit, my adventure books were mostly Zane Grey books so horses and cowboys were involved.

I have noticed I have gone back to reading adventure books. First it was the Rebecca Zanetti books with Laurel Snow and then it was the B.J. Daniels, Maisey Yates, and Sandra Dallas. Each of them had thriller elements most mixed in with romance.  Then I found CJ Box with the Joe Pickett novels and I loved them.  Most recently I found Indy Quillen and I know I have found the adult version of Hatchet.

Indy Quillen writes a series called the Fox Walker Series. Tracker, Pursuit, Duplicity, Astray, Conflicted and Perception are the books in order.  They are wonderful to read.  Fox Walker is a tracker extraordinaire and Nataya (his partner – READ book 1) are asked to find people, track information and figure out things.  They go into the woods with their wits, fire starters, layers of clothing and some water and snacks.  They come back with answers and information and usually people.  This is the new author I wanted to bring to your attention.  Someone who teaches you about survival while you are reading (Not that I would use the information except to try to survive the Zombie Apocalypse.)

Elise’s baseball team is upsetting her greatly, but she managed to send in a great interview with Shelley Shepard Gray and her newest book, Unshaken.
