Happy Mother’s Day! As always I spent some time thinking about Mom today. For me, I thought about her determination to live life and her love for us. Even after all this time, I sometimes wish I could speak with her over just the minutia of the day.
In my desire to branch out my reading, I read two books that were suggested to me by others. The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, seriously creepy and twisted and Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez, poignant with a HEA. Thank you to everyone who has sent in suggestions or spoken to me with their thoughts.
I have to admit, it was Where the Rivers Merge by Mary Alice Monroe was my favorite this week. I love her books. Reading them sometimes reminds me of long hot summer days with a glass of ice tea or sitting on the porch watching the water and day flow by. This novel is one of two. The first book follows Eliza to her marriage, as told by Eliza to her younger relatives. The novel reminded me how narrow the role of women had in the early 1900s and the distinct separation of the races. I find Mary Alice Monroe novels often offer me time to reflect on different issues (even though they may not be the crux of the book).
Elise sent in a review and interview with Pamela Fagan Hutchins and her newest book called, Her Burning Lies. The book sounds interesting with the characters, suspense and the partnership between the sheriffs. The interview as always gave me insight into the book.
Here in New Hampshire we have a few beautiful spring days happening! I want to bake in the sun, but at my age, knowing I can’t unless I wish to resemble a boiled lobster. Find time to read!
