Three Days in June by Anne Tyler

Three Days in June by Anne Tyler is an interesting character driven book about a woman and the three days around her daughter’s marriage.  Gail Baines is socially awkward.  She struggles during social events and doesn’t always seem to understand why people respond the way they do.

On the day before her daughter’s wedding, Gail might have lost her job and her ex-husband, Max,  shows up to stay at her house with a cat, but not a suit. She is not invited to spa day and her daughter shares a secret, which is quite upsetting to both Gail and Max.

For the next two days, Gail and Max work together to help their daughter’s wedding go off without issues.  However, the time together with Max and the secret cause more conversations and help them move forward.

I felt the book resonated with me when Gail starts questioning her role with various situations.  I liked how Max was willing to listen and help.  Gail is obviously neuro-divergent and her struggle with the social conventions allowed her to be a sympathetic character. The book is not long and reads quickly.  Three Days in June by Anne Tyler is a good read.
