Summer at Hope Haven by Kristin Harper

Summer at Hope Haven by Kristin Harper is one of the feel good summer novels I enjoy so much.  The novel takes place in Hope Haven, a small touristy town.  The main character, Emily has had a lot of tragedy in her young life and retreats to the one place her family went every summer.  Emily thinks being there will allow her time to heal.

Emily’s neighbors are old friends who support her and want to help her find her way.  She also meets Lucas Socorro, a local doctor who loves to surf and fish near her place.  Between all of her friends new and old, Emily begins to move forward (even with a concussion) painting the cottage brighter colors.  Her past is not something she shares with people, but she decides to share it with Luke.  Soon after her whole story is shared with everyone and she knows it had to come from Luke.  Her confidence shattered, Emily is heartbroken again.  Maybe she just needs to go back, but to what?

It is important to note that if you like your main characters to constantly be second guessing themselves, this is your book.  Otherwise you might become impatient with Emily, however it didn’t make me want to stop reading, as much as I began to scold her about moving on! Summer at Hope Haven by Kristi Harper was a good read.
