The Thermometer is Broken

I am pretty sure that the thermometer is broken for New Hampshire.  Our temperatures have been out of control, in the 90s most days.  What it has allowed me is reading time!  A quiet activity in the shade in front of a fan.  It has made me want to stay at work with the air conditioning.  It has made me want to wear dresses.   Yup – clearly a crisis.

Peanut crackers for dinner? I don’t want to cook either, not really a surprise.  Gizzie brought me a fine chipmunk for dinner 2 nights ago.  She was not pleased that I didn’t let her in the house with it.

All this hot weather allowed me to work on my to-be-read list. I have loved being able to cross off so many books in the last couple of weeks.  I have to admit, I reached out to Emma and had her increase the number of books shown on the review page.  Thank you Emma Bates!

Feels Like Summer by Wendy Francis – 3 stars – Three sisters  weathering difficulties in May culminating in a Memorial Day bash, a dead body and loads of secrets!  The setting is contemporary and on Cape Cod.

When the Viscount Seduces by Darcy Burke – 4 stars – A historical romance set in London.  It is the 3rd book in the Rogue Rules Series.  The series is predicated on a group of young women who banded together as friends and came up with a list of things to avoid so they are not the victim of a rogue and therefore ostracized from society.

One Big Happy Family by Jamie Day – 4 stars – The novel is set in an old inn on the cliffs in Maine during a hurricane.  The characters are all people who are interested in hearing the will of the owner of the inn.  Strife, murder, mayhem, hidden people, secrets – lots of secrets all happen while the characters are stuck in the inn without any access to getting help from the outside.

Nice Work, Nora November by Julia London – 4 stars – Nora November had a near death experience, which makes her want to change up her life with her reverse bucket list.  Her family, however, does everything they can to keep her the person from the past, even if she was horribly unhappy.

Passions in Death by JD Robb  – 5 stars- In the futuristic NYC, Eve Dallas and Roarke  and their eccentric friends are solving homicides and living life.  The novels are fascinating and fabulous.  This is number 59, but all can be read as a stand alone.  OH – and it comes out early September.

Elise sent in an interview with Amy Tess and her new book, Confidence Games. The two main characters, known as the Dream Team, only swindle men who deserve it!  Sounds like fun doesn’t it?  Also we have a guest review,  Elise’s review of The Burning, Linda Castillo’s newest book!  (She enjoyed it also.)

Stay Cool and Keep Reading!
