This week we were going to speak about our favorite authors or at least that was my goal. However, after reading the lists from friends and family, my head is spinning. There are so many great writers and as much as there is some overlap, there is more diversity than I could even imagine. A few people said their favorites vary and it depends.
There were some top names that seemed to resonate with people who answered, including JRR Tolkien, Steven King, and Kristin Hannah. Also there were some authors from “around here” with Dan Brown and Jodi Picoult and even Thoreau. Some people went right to more current authors with Colleen Hoover, Rebecca Yarros and Frieda McFadden. Others went to prolific authors like Nora Roberts, David Baldacci, James Patterson and Linda Castillo.
The lesson I learned is WOW oh WOW, we really like a whole bunch of different writers! I mean, I haven’t even mentioned JK Rowling and George RR Martin. What this did clarify for me is that I am so glad to live in a place where there are a plethora of books and authors to choose from. The world is a most wondrous place with so many stories to share. It also brings home the concern about banning books and how we shouldn’t be determining what others read.
Elise sent in a review of a book called Dying Cry by Margaret Mizushima. The book is one in a series about K-9/ police and murder. The main character, Mattie is not only a K-9 handler, she is a new stepmom to 3 girls and newly married to their father. It sounds like Mattie has a lot to balance! The interview this week is with Peter James (not the Peter James that lives down the road from me) and his book, The Hawk is Dead. It is a murder mystery with the actual Queen of England as one of the characters. Detective Roy Grace is tasked with determining who the target is and why.
Take the time to read.
